Know Your Favorite Clients to Grow Your Business
Last week's article, "How to Know What Marketing Channels to Invest in Next Year"
But in today's story --
THE MORE YOU KNOW ABOUT YOUR CLIENTS, THE BETTER YOUR 2018 MARKETING CAN BE
Do you hate the notion of ideal clients too? I get it. I did too. Here's how to get around "inventing" who they are and document / learn from them instead.
I really can't stand the notion of inventing who your ideal clients are off the top of your head, though this is how a lot of people build their businesses. You've got to base it off something, otherwise - your ideal target clients end up being - guess what - exactly just like you! And that doesn't really help you build a smart marketing plan, brand or anything else great for your business.
I've written at length about this in this article (Creative Ways to Define Ideal Clients) but today's challenge is going to be a simple one:
Document your favorite 2017 clients and figure out all that you can about them
Last week, I asked you to document ALL of your clients from this year. Now what I'd like to you to do is to go through your list and identify which clients were your FAVORITE. Think about the clients you'd love to see 10 more of in your inbox. Quickly identify them on your list or mark them in your copy of the free template.
If you don't know the answers, I'd encourage you to schedule client interviews with them as soon as possible to find out!
What to learn about your favorite clients (so you can learn how to attract more of them!):
Age Range
Gender
Industry
Level of education
Favorite brands (where do they shop?)
Favorite Social Media Platforms
Personal Values
When I did a similar exercise (and continue to update mine), I've learned where to invest my resources more. I can't be everything to everybody - so knowing where my absolute FAVORITE clients came from, what they value, where they shop - that tells me a LOT about how to reach them more effectively.
If you've done the reader survey, you'll also notice I've asked similar types of questions to better understand you. Sometimes it's as simple as knowing who you want to serve and what they care about, to deliver and grow your business. The key is realizing your business is not for everyone - a topic I'll be covering more in-depth early next year.
So here's your last challenge of 2017: finish your client analysis of 2017, focused on knowing more about your IDEAL aka Favorite Clients!
If you know your favorite clients hang out on Instagram, commit to posting more often on IG. If you know they love to shop at Kohls, make your next giveaway for your newsletter a Kohl's gift card!
When you're done - reply and send me what you've learned!
Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas!
I've got an announcement or two coming this month, but we'll skip the formal blog posts for the rest of December, as I want to encourage you to enjoy time with friends and family, and treating yourself as a client for once if you're trying out your own "Batch December."
Thank you so much for reading and for all your support and encouragement this year! It's life-giving to help empower you and to watch you and your business grow with time through this community.
