How I Stopped Using Email as My To Do List

Establish Yourself® Podcast | Episode 70

Is your inbox full of tasks, ideas, and overwhelm?

I’ve been right there with ya.

That reminder to follow up with someone. A random idea for the podcast. Something I needed to do for a client. A book I wanted to read. A note I sent myself late at night because apparently my brain decided that was the perfect time to remember everything.

And at some point, my inbox stopped feeling like a place for communication and started feeling like one giant stress machine.

That had to stop.

Email Was Never Meant to Be Your To Do List

In this episode of the Establish Yourself® Podcast, I’m sharing the simple free tool that helped me stop using email as my to-do list and finally get my tasks, ideas, and follow-ups into one better place.

Because if you’re a coach, consultant, speaker, or service business owner, you’re probably carrying a lot in your head on any given day. Client work, marketing ideas, follow-ups, life logistics, business projects, and those little “don’t forget this” thoughts that seem to arrive while you’re in the shower, driving, or trying to fall asleep.

When all of that gets shoved into your inbox, email starts doing a job it was never designed to do.

And that is not a smooth system.

It’s just a stress producer.

The Free Tool That Finally Stuck

For me, the tool that finally helped was Todoist.

This is not sponsored. I do not have an affiliate code. I am still using the free version. I just love when a simple system actually works with your brain instead of making you feel like you need a whole new personality to use it.

That’s what made the difference for me.

Todoist became what I think of as an external brain: one place to capture tasks, follow-ups, ideas, and future projects without burying them in email or trying to hold them all in my actual very busy brain.

In the episode, I share how I started using it after realizing my inbox had gone completely rogue, why the “Ramble” feature works so well for my verbal-processing brain, and how one simple boundary changed everything:

Email is for email.
Todoist is for tasks.

Ready to Get Tasks Out of Email?

If your inbox has been quietly storing tasks, reminders, and brilliant ideas from the very wonderful and very busy you, this episode will give you a practical place to start.

You do not need a complicated productivity system. You do not need an expensive tool. You just need one place where your tasks can go that is not your inbox.
