Perfectionism in Business: A New Mindset That Actually Moves You Forward
Establish Yourself® Podcast | Episode 26
What if you could quit trying to have the perfect brand?
If you ever catch yourself tweaking your website, reworking your offers, or waiting for the “right” time to launch… I’ve been there. And if you’re a high-achieving service provider who’s used to doing things well, it’s easy to fall into what I call the perfection trap.
In this week’s episode of the Establish Yourself® podcast, I share a mindset shift that’s helped me—and many of my clients—finally move forward. It’s simple, a little strange, and totally unforgettable.
Building the Perfect Brand, or House, Keeps Us Stuck
The industry taught me that, much like building a custom, impressive house, success could only come from building the perfect brand—the flawless messaging, beautiful website, gorgeous photos, the whole thing.
But after a decade in business and helping hundreds of clients, I’ve learned a reframe that’s far more powerful:
Your business isn’t a house.
It’s a shark. 🦈
Yes, a shark. Great White Sharks have to keep moving or they suffocate and die, seriously.
Just like a Great White can’t breathe without swimming, your business thrives on forward motion—even if it’s imperfect.
When you stop moving (by overthinking, second-guessing, or tweaking instead of acting), your business loses momentum. What changed everything for me was learning to ask one key question:
👉 “Did I feed my shark today?”
Some days that means marketing. Other days it means rest. But the point is: action keeps your business alive—not perfection.
